The ratchet brake mechanism holds load of between 2.5 and 3.33 times the rated line pull (specification refers) which enables the winch to be used as both a pulling winch and as a restraining or anchor winch.

In an unloaded condition or with a smaller load the rope is pulled in or paid out using a large diameter hand wheel complete with a foot brake, avoiding the hazards associated with crank handle operation.

A removable ratchet lever is incorporated to facilitate the safe handling of heavier loads. These winches are not suitable for lifting applications.
